Small steam-bent Ash and copper Trug.
Great for collecting large vegetables from your garden, keeping fruit in your kitchen or usually as a sculptural piece in your home. The Brass is patinated and hammered giving age or the start of a story. The Ash is steam-bent and constructed using traditional boat-builders techniques and copper fixings.
Jane Crisp has achieved considerable press coverage with her stunning trugs. Jane's work has featured in Country Living Magazine, Craft and Design Magazine, she was selected by the Crafts Council as one of the Hot House 5 and continues to have sell out shows across the UK. Jane works from home in her studio & two small workshops in Hale Fen on the Norfolk Cambridgeshire border.
She believes that functional objects can be elevated; creating heirlooms & longevity in designs we live with every day. Jane takes inspiration from her local countryside, history, tradition, flora & fauna. She loves the textural & tactile qualities of natural materials like Wool, Wood, Copper, & Leather & Brass.
Jane's designs are made to use & love, amplifying traditional techniques, in a contemporary way experimenting with the mythologies of making.
Her products consist of a small batch of steam-bent Ash vessels or trugs. The inspiration for these practical ‘one off’ pieces comes from Norfolk reeds & the process is inspired by historic boat building techniques & copper fixtures. her Trugs are currently featured on the front cover of Craft & Design and in Crafts Magazine.
The Wesley-Barrell Craft Awards judges:
“A refreshingly contemporary take on the classic trug. While the fluid form references the traditional process and materials, Crisp adds an unexpected touch by juxtaposing brass and copper with Ash.”
