Pasta ceramic bowl with a Leaf detail in the centre, a really beautiful functional piece of pottery.
Josie Walter works from her workshop at home in Derbyshire. She trained as an anthropologist and then a teacher, before taking up ceramics. After a ceramics course at Chesterfield College of Art, Josie did a 6 month apprenticeship with Sue Atkins at the Poterie du Don in the Auvergne, France.
Josie throws her pots on a wheel or slab builds them using earthenware clay. The decoration is applied either thickly with a brush on the wheel, or by pouring slips onto the pots. Josie's pots are functional and beautiful and a pleasure to use in everyday life.
