#GoldenHareStories Part 3: Sky Siouki

Sky approached me a couple of years ago to see if I was interested in exhibiting her work. I was instantly blown away by her individual style and intricate drawings and just knew that we had to have her on board.

Sky trained in textile design, inspired by her love of nature and passion for colour and texture. Sky's work starts out with a coloured textured backdrop and gradually Sky adds textures, collages and drawings onto the canvas.

"My backdrops begin life very freely without reference, but tend to naturally take on the form of abstracted landscapes since the addition of my bird illustrations create a context within each painting"

Sky is based in Bristol and you can often find her teaching her skills to groups of entrepreneurs or with the #bristolgirlbosses promoting women in business in Bristol.

Sky's beautiful cushions

Recently we've exhibited some of Sky's limited edition prints and it's wonderful to see the artwork behind the coaster and cushion designs. Sky’s current work focuses on the ethereal beauty of birds and their natural surroundings. Her distinctive artwork features detailed studies of various different bird species amongst abstract painted landscapes and rugged foliage.

Sky draws her illustrations using pencil on paper and then applies them to her painted backdrops either digitally or using image transfers. This means she is able to maintain the high level of detail used in her illustrations that would not be attainable by drawing straight onto the canvas. Behind these stunning illustrations are subtle, painterly transitions of natural greys and browns contrasted by occasional streaks and sprays of bolder hues. Fragments of gold leaf peep out from thick patches of oil paint overlaid with an occasional delicate botanical drawing suggesting scenes of unexplored wilderness.

Bright Haze

Sky is one of my artists I'm taking to the Country Living Magazine Christmas Fair from the 7-11th November at the Business Design Centre in Islington, who's going? I've got some free tickets I'll be giving away so watch this space... We'll be selling Sky's coasters and placemats so she is currently working really hard to make some up for me. Sky's coasters are always a sell out in the shop, the barn owl being the most popular for some reason.

Head over to Sky's page on the website now to have a wide choice of her designs as they're selling quickly and make lovely Christmas presents, 2 coasters and a hot plate make any table look beautiful.

*Runs off to order some* ;-) - Heres the link, you can thank me later!
