Gallery Photoshoot

I bribed my lovely mum, Jane, with lunch (& cake!) at Cakestand and Crumb, to come up to the gallery and help me give it a new look. We went at it a room at a time, emptying each room and then looking at the space afresh, a new pair of artistic eyes was a huge help, not to mention someone to assist me on this mammoth task!

Don't get me wrong, I move work around the gallery on a daily basis, work comes in and new space needs to be made, but sometimes a major re-design is in order and now the gallery has been open 8 months, it was about time for a shake up.

The main reason behind this task was that I had a photographer coming to take some snaps of the gallery. The shop front is lovely with the hanging signs, window baskets, leaded windows and farrow and ball colour-ways, however it doesn't exactly shout out 'Gallery full of gorgeous things!'. I have also had people ask me if Golden Hare is just an online shop and not a premises. All those hours sanding the wooden floor, re-fitting carpets, painting walls, upcycling furniture (and sometimes just random objects) to create displays clearly wasn't being appreciated! I clearly needed some photos for the website, social media and for marketing & PR.
The lovely Binky Nixon, a photographer who's work I've admired for a long time and lives in Ampthill came to take some photos. Her whimsical style was perfect to capture the feeling of the gallery, a space with lots of quirky period features, little cubby holes and inset cupboards.
I also needed some photos of me, someone who loves to be behind a camera not the focus of the shot! Luckily I had puddle to distract from me in the photos, but I think Binky managed to take a couple of me not looking too awkward!

So there is a small selection of the many photos Binky took, but please have a look around the website for more and follow Golden Hare on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for pretty photographic updates!

If Binky's beautiful photographs don't make you want to visit the gallery then I'm not sure what else I can do- maybe if I offered each customer a glass of Prosecco and some cake... or maybe I'll just leave that to the lovely bars, cafe's and restaurants Ampthill has to offer!
