May 20, 2015

Its been a while since my last blog post, and I can only apologise! Blogs are fantastic if you get into a routine of updating them, I end up getting so bogged down with getting a really good idea for a post that I don’t get round to actually writing it!!

It’s been a really busy couple of months. Since opening in October last year it’s been a whirlwind of activity at Golden Hare, and a gigantic learning curve for me! April was such a hectic month; firstly we had the gorgeous Easter weekend, which coincided with both Puddle and my birthdays, the gallery had lots of lovely visitors over the weekend, including lots of new faces, which is great!

The next week saw my first ever Trade fair, The British Craft Trade Fair (BCTF) with over 400 really talented artists and designers, from emerging artists to well established artists. Our own Gin Durham was there showing some of her sculptural work which will soon be coming to Golden Hare (watch this space!), it was a relief to see a friendly face in amongst the chaos!

The fair was a real eye opener, being a first timer I found it quite overwhelming to have so much to see in such a short amount of time. After initially finding myself chatting to every artist I passed, I soon realised that I would need a week at the show if I carried on like this. A little re-think and I began to look at work with a view to how well it would fit in with the other work at Golden Hare.

Excitingly we now have lots of new work in the gallery from the show including the beautiful watercolours of Jenny Ulyatt:

Atelier Nomad’s stitched cushions and doorstops:

Kerry Newth’s intricate jewellery:

Ruby Anne’s porcelain jewellery:

And Bryoney Fawn's Papercuts:

As well as the artists found at BCTF, we are now stocking work from Anna Thompson, a young Durham artist that is causing a storm in the art world:

Janine Partington’s beautiful enamel panels and jewellery:

Este MacLeod’s vibrant paintings:

And I’m sure lots more too!! Golden Hare Gallery now shows work by over 50 different artists and designers, most of which can be found on the website, and of course on display at the gallery in Ampthill.

We had a complete makeover of the gallery last week to get it looking tip top for a photoshoot by the brilliantly talented photographer Binky Nixon, so we’ll be posting some lovely photos soon!

Clearly blog updating is something I need to work on, so in the mean time please do follow the gallery on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest. Also do sign up to the mailing list at the bottom of the page!

Watch this space for upcoming exhibitions, workshops in the planning stages and new artists!

Over and Out- Laura & Puddle (although she didn’t contribute much to the writing of this post)
