All Stitched Up

November 12, 2014

Harriet Riddell spent a day at the gallery stitching portraits on Sunday November 2nd. Word spread around Ampthill quickly about her unique style and incredible talent and we had people queueing up to get their portrait stitched!

Harriet uses her sewing machine to draw a portrait of the sitter, she does it using free machinery methods and no drawing is done before stitching. Harriet's observational drawings in stitch have such character, she stitches bits of your conversation with her and little drawings of your hobbies and interests woven into your hair or the detail in your scarf or jumper.

Her talent has enabled her to travel extensively around the world, even stitching for Indian fashion weeks. She is currently in Canada and has plans to go back to India in 2015.
